Faculty of Animal Husbandry Lecturer Participates in Multi-Stakeholder FGD on Layer Hen Welfare in Bali
Denpasar, 23 April 2026 — Dr. Ir. Eny Puspani, S.Pt., M.Si., IPM., a lecturer from the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Udayana University, participated in a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) entitled “Multi-Stakeholder Collaboration to Strengthen Animal Welfare in Layer Hen Production Systems in Bali.” The event was held at Grand Shanti Hotel, Denpasar.
The FGD was organized by the Indonesian Animal Legal Protection Foundation as part of an initiative to foster collaboration among academics, livestock industry practitioners, government agencies, and civil society organizations in advancing the implementation of animal welfare principles, particularly within Bali’s layer poultry sector.
During the discussion, Dr. Eny Puspani contributed valuable academic perspectives on the importance of implementing science-based and sustainable animal welfare standards. She emphasized that animal welfare principles not only address ethical considerations but also play a significant role in improving livestock productivity, product quality, and the long-term sustainability of livestock enterprises.
"Animal welfare must become an integral component of modern livestock production systems. Through appropriate approaches, farmers can enhance production performance while meeting consumer expectations for more ethical and high-quality products," she stated.
The FGD also served as a platform to identify key challenges in implementing animal welfare practices, including limited farmer awareness, economic considerations, and the need for stronger regulatory support. Through this multi-stakeholder dialogue, participants sought to formulate practical and locally relevant collaborative strategies tailored to the conditions of Bali.
The participation of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Udayana University, in this event reflects the institution’s commitment to promoting sustainable, ethical, and animal welfare-oriented livestock production systems. Furthermore, the involvement of academics is expected to bridge the gap between scientific knowledge and field practices, thereby supporting the development of more effective policies and implementation strategies.
The discussion concluded with the formulation of joint recommendations that will serve as a foundation for strengthening future animal welfare policies and practices within Bali’s layer poultry industry.
