FAPET UNUD “MEPATUNG”, WELCOME TO GALUNGAN AND KUNINGAN DAY

To welcome the Galungan and Kuningan celebrations, even though it is still in an atmosphere of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Faculty of Animal Science, Udayana University held the Mepatung tradition, Sunday 5 June 2022. This event took place in the Jimbaran hill campus area, attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Udayana University Dr. Ir. I Nyoman Tirta Ariana, MS., IPU. , lecturers and staff at the Faculty of Animal Science, Udayana University.

The Mepatung tradition is a tradition that is often carried out by people in Bali ahead of Galungan. People usually form groups, then the fees or fees to buy pork and meat are distributed evenly among group members. This pork sculpture is not only to preserve tradition, but also to ward off the issue of African Swine Fever (ASF). Recently, the price of pigs has fallen due to the number of pigs dying suddenly, which is detrimental to pig farmers. For this sculpture event, three pigs were slaughtered. "We carry out sculpting activities to evoke a sense of togetherness among lecturers and staff at the Faculty of Animal Science, Unud. Because the essence of sculpture is togetherness and mutual cooperation, which has been carried out for a long time," said Dr. Tirta.
