Visit of Professor Tomoyuki Kawashima to the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Udayana University

The Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Udayana University, welcomed a visit from Professor Tomoyuki Kawashima, Professor Emeritus of the University of Miyazaki, Japan, on Tuesday, 25 November 2025. The visit was received directly by the Dean of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Udayana University, Dr. Ir. Dewi Ayu Warmadewi, S.Pt., M.Si., IPM., ASEAN Eng.

Professor Kawashima’s visit to Bali was part of the Osaki Town Project team’s agenda from Japan, which is currently developing a program to promote waste recycling in Gianyar, including exploring the potential conversion of food waste into high-quality livestock feed (eco-feed). As a global expert in this field, he sought to gather information regarding:

  • The current condition of livestock production in Bali,

  • The sources and volume of food waste generated by various culinary businesses,

  • Existing initiatives aimed at reducing food waste,

  • The current situation and development opportunities for eco-feed in Bali.

During the discussion, Professor Kawashima also expressed his interest in collaborating with researchers at the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Udayana University, particularly those engaged in animal feed technology and food waste utilization.

This visit marks an important step toward establishing academic and research collaboration between Udayana University and the University of Miyazaki, particularly in advancing waste-based feed innovation and promoting sustainable livestock production systems in Bali.
